The Amsterdam-Roma Jazz Quartet is about rhythm and melody, North and South, 'pasta' and 'patate frite', lines and spaces. Two Dutch horn players and an fantastic Italian rhythm section. A piano-less quartet. The music breathes in and out. Counterpoint and groove melt together the same way that Europe slowly but surely does. Distances become shorter, borders break down. Tradition and identity remain. There is improvisation, space, sound. THE AMSTERDAM-ROMA JAZZ QUARTET is about discovering differences and common ground!
An
intruiging combination of pure swing and storytelling improvisation!

It
was a mouth-watering concert, with compositions by Middelhoff, Kleijn
and Ciancaglini.Middelhoff has a delicious, extraordinary sound on his
instrument and his playing has depth and personality. And, with Kleijn
in excellent form, together they formed a magnificent front line. Modestly
in the background, but musically prominent in the foreground, were Ciancaglini,
a bassist and composer of stature, and Minetto, an extremely stimulating
and creative drummer,
the sublime rhythm section.
