Een door pers en publiek zeer enthiousast ontvangen programma van de Gerard Kleijn Group. De vierde cd Le Flirt de Satie van de groep werd live opgenomen in Basel/Zwitserland. De groep toerde hier al mee door Nederland, Zwitserland, Duitsland en Belgie.

Het Clazz Ensemble is een small bigband op het snijvlak van jazz en moderne gecomponeerde muziek. In dit nieuwe Nederlandse ensemble komen verschillende generaties topmusici uit de jazz- en klassieke muziek samen om hun publiek te verrassen met grensverleggende en avontuurlijke muziek van Nederlandse componisten van nu.

Het ensemble onderscheidt zich door een hecht en herkenbaar groepsgeluid en door het feit dat alle stukken speciaal voor deze formatie zijn bedacht door componisten van uiteenlopende signatuur.  De grote diversiteit in het repertoire creëert een permanente uitdaging, niet alleen voor de musici maar ook  voor de luisteraars die dit avontuur willen meebeleven.

Voor haar eerste project ‘Avonturen’ heeft het Clazz Ensemble compositieopdrachten gegeven aan: David Dramm, Maud Sauer, Michael Moore, Ilja Reijngoud, Marco C. De Bruin, Paul M. van Brugge, Jacob ter Veldhuis, Dick de Graaf en Arend Niks.

Cadance spoke about the trumpeters distintive voice in an earlier review(2003)of Kleijn's 2002 ''Love Quotes'', and he continues to impress here. To his credit, he has kept his band together, and the coheseviness of the group shows, as there are consistently excellent contributions from each of the band members. It is Kleijn, thoug, who is the leader and dominant voice, and when it is all over, you cannot but sense that is he trumpeter worth getting to know .

Trumpeter Gerard Kleijn and his band have made swinging jazz arrangements based on nine compositions by Satie. The result is less far-fetched than you might expect. On the contrary: replace the silences which Satie left in his compositions with, for example, a swinging beat and you hear: jazz! However, one thing is certain: Satie never sounded like this before.

The music on this recording is informed but not imprisoned by it's influences.The leader clearly has learned much from select models, and has also moved well beyond mimicry and towards achieving a distinctive voice!
